Reclining In Style with Chaise Lounge Cushions

Friday, March 25th, 2011

The cushions for a reclining chair or a chair that has seats long enough to provide complete leg support are referred to as chaise lounge cushions. You’ll find these chairs inside, however, you’ll most often find them outdoors for sunbathing or on a patio to provide somewhere to stretch out and relax. Chaise lounge cushions are going to make your sunbathing or relaxation time even that much more comfortable.

Since there are chaise lounges for both indoor and outdoor use, you’ll find that the material for the chaise lounge cushions is going to vary. Foam stuffing and common fabric coverings will usually define the indoor chaise lounge cushions. In order to provide sun, rain and all other external factor resistance, the outdoor chaise lounge cushions are made more specialized through utilizing materials, such as, polyester, Outdura, acrylic, Sunbrealla or olefin.

All of the aforementioned materials are lightweight while maintaining durability, which is something that makes them ideal for outdoor cushions. Additionally, they’re flexible enough so that your cushions won’t wrinkle or begin to deform as time goes on. Furthermore, they’re mildew, fading, along with being stain and mold resistant.

Cushions that are purposed for the outdoors will need to be waterproof due to the elements that come with nature are very harsh. Most typically, the indoor chaise lounge is going to have a design that’s more of an extended chair, utilizing features like a headrest and the ability for someone to elevate their feet and recline.

There is an exceptional amount of style variety that you can get with the chaise lounge chair, such as, attached armrests, double headrests and you can even find matching footrests separately.

Indoor chaise lounges will most typically have their cushions filled just like any other upholstered piece of indoor furniture. The beauty of the chaise lounge is on the outside and its covering. It provides all of the attractiveness, and this is especially the case if your chaise lounge is purposed toward radiating opulence, which you’ll find through coverings of velvet, satin and other expensive fabrics.

Other than just the cushion material you’ll find an endless amount of pattern and color options. From the block color, to solids, Asian prints and just about anything else you can want. If you end up not liking how it looks, you can simply have it reupholstered as you would an old armchair or your couch. If the cushion is still in excellent condition and you just want a change you can have it done with the cushions as well, since they’re also an investment.

Recovering Your Chaise Lounge Cushions

Friday, March 25th, 2011

After they’ve been used for a number of years, the cushions on the chaise lounge starts to become faded and stained. Commonly, the furniture’s frame will still be in really good condition, however, the cushions will no longer be attractive. Purchasing new cushions is something that presents many challenges, such as:

  • Replacement can get expensive
  • Matching the color and pattern  you want to work with can be difficult

Keeping that in mind there are options that will let you re-cover the cushions for your chaise lounge and have the same color and pattern without expensive replacement and search time of trying to find the premade cushion match.

You’ll first need to survey the cushions currently on your chaise lounge. You’ll want to see what the condition the foamed stuffing is in and determine if it’s still usable. If the stuffing isn’t in decent enough condition you’ll want to size the cushion first, and then purchase the appropriate amount of fresh foam or other stuffing material. Ensure that if you need to purchase new material you’re purchasing material that’s explicitly intended for use outdoors.

After that you’ll want to measure the old cushion so you can quickly and easily make the determination on the required yardage. After that you can purchase the yardage you need and add in some extra to do things like matching patterns and stripes along with making ties so you can make sure the chaise lounge frame has the cushions securely fastened to it.

Once you’ve done those things you can purchase the new fabric. Make sure that you purchase fabric that’s sun resistant if you’re going to be leaving the cushions outside for a long period of time.

Next, you can create the cushion pattern through using newspaper. You’ll want to go ahead and do this while making sure that you’re allowing for another inch of space on all of the sides so you can allow for seam space allowance. After that you’ll be able to take the old ties and make note of their length before proceeding.

Once you’ve done that you can begin cutting the new foam through using the pattern you made from the newspaper. Afterward, you can cut the fabric through using the pattern you drew and also cut the fabric for the ties.

Sewing the seams of the fabric is going to be next. Ensure that you leave an open end so you can account for the stuffing and then turn it right side out. You’ll need to attach and sew the ties to the cushion cover through using the same positioning found in the old cushions. Furthermore, you’ll need to sew the Velcro to both of the sides of the cushion covers open ends.

Finally, you’ll be able to take the new cover that you’ve made, stuff the cushion into it, and finally secure it through fastening the Velcro openings that you attached. You’ll complete the process by attaching the ties to the frame of the chaise lounge and then you can relax on your chaise lounge and take a much deserved break.

Once this is all done you’ll have made matching cushions without having to go through all of the expense and the time it’d take to find a cushion match in a store, which you might never be able to do, and save a lot of money along the way too.

Friday, March 25th, 2011

The cushions that are used for every category of reclining chair that has seats that are adequate length wise to support a person’s legs are referred to as chaise lounge cushions. You’ll find that the chaise lounges are mostly utilized outside for sun bathing or just taking the time out to relax or stretch. The chaise lounge cushion is something that makes it significantly more comfortable, in order to achieve relaxation.

Although a lot of purpose is for outdoor use, the chaise lounge cushions and the chaise lounges themselves are found for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s for that reason that you’ll find a significant level of variation in the cushions.

The cushions for the indoor chaise lounge will most often be foam stuffed and then covered with a common pillow fabric. On the other hand, the outdoor chaise lounge cushions are going to be further specified as they’re going to have to resist, rain, sun and all other external outdoor factors. Due to that fact you’ll find that they are made out of materials that are synthetic, such as:

  • Olefin
  • Polyester
  • Outdura
  • Acrylic
  • Sunbrealla

Those materials are durable and lightweight which makes them supreme for open-air chaise lounge cushions. Additionally, they’re flexible which ensures that the chaise lounge cushions don’t wrinkle or deform. Finally, they’ll be resistant to fading, stains, mildew and mold. Cushions specifically made for outdoor use needs to be waterproofed due to the elements of nature and their harshness.

You’ll find that chaise lounge cushions come in many different style types, such as, attached armrests, double headrests and also even matching separate footrests. The indoor chaise lounge is going to be intended as an extended chair that has a head support and also the capability for someone to elevate their feet and recline.

The filling of the indoor chaise lounge cushions is going to be like another piece of indoor upholstered furniture. The outside covering is going to be where you’ll have all of the beauty and attractiveness, especially for the chaise lounge cushion that’s meant to be radiating opulence. You’ll find in those instances the chaise lounge cushions will be covered in velvet or satin.

Other than just the cushion material, the colors and the patterns that you can choose from are virtually endless. From solid, to Asian print, block color, paisley and just about anything else. If you end up not liking the way that it works or just want to go for a change, you can find it as easily reupholstered as an old armchair or a couch.

There are going to be two parts that will come with the chaise lounge cushion:

  1. Long part for the seat
  2. Short part for the back

Furthermore, you’ll find that some of the cushions will be fixed to the chairs while there are others that are able to be detached. You’ll find that although not all of the chaise lounge cushions are reversible, a lot of the detachable cushions will be. Additionally, the cushions can be channeled, stitched or quilted. You’ll find them very useful as decorations with all of the different prints and colors they come in.

The chaise lounge cushions are a very special type of cushion that’s used for the chaise lounge reclining chairs that have the long seats in order to accommodate long legs. The chaise lounge is something that’s amazing for napping, relaxation or sun bathing on a nice day. The cushion is what makes the chair much more comfortable through the neutralization of pressure from the chaise’s hardness and the angularity of the chaise’s materials. Many chaise lounges aren’t complete without the utilization of chaise lounge cushions.

Choosing and Protecting Your Outdoor Patio Cushions

Friday, March 25th, 2011

You finally have your patio ready to go and your chaise lounge and other furniture has been purchased. Now you have to decide what type of cushions you need to fit into your chaise furniture design and maintain look and ultimate comfort.

Finding just the right design of the chaise lounge and other furniture to go with it and then integrating the cushions to go with your design scheme can be quite the challenge. There’s so many different uses that you end up with. You can use it to just relax on after a long day, doing some work in comfort, etc…

Most often, to help with correct posture, you’ll find that the back is almost at a right angle going to the bottom, and the seat height is approximately 16” off of the ground. You’ll want to look for furniture that will remove almost all of the weight from your rear and pass it onto your lower back. It’s for that reason you’ll find that most seat backs are slanted slightly as it helps with weight transfer.

Something that’s altogether different, however, is finding cushions for your chaise lounge chair. The reason for this is that chaise lounges are most usually used for reclining and will have a seat that’s extra-long in the back so you can support your legs comfortably.

The expectation that we always go in with is to have our chaise lounge cushions and our other outdoor cushions to last. In order to make sure this happens some special care will have to be taken when it comes to cleaning them.

Ensure that you’re always using the same procedure for cleaning whether you’re now getting them out for springtime, or getting them ready for winter storage. For instance, if you have zippered covers you’ll want to remove the covers and then wash them, on a low cycle, with mild detergent in your washing machine. You should always avoid getting the foam insert wet if you can at all help it. The reason for this is to help with mildew prevention, however, if it does get wet it’s ok, just make sure that you’re letting it air dry completely before you ever put the cover back on.

Furthermore, it’s always a good practice to flip your cushions every so often in order to ensure you keep the fading down due to its exposure to the sun. If you ever spill you’ll want to remove it right when the spill happens, if at all possible. You’ll find that there are cleaning products that are specifically formulated to take out stains and treat mildew if it happens to your chaise lounge and other outdoor pillows.

Make sure that you’re storing your cushions in a container that’s airtight. Additionally, it’s always wise to put a few cedar balls in with the pillows when you’re storing them as it fulfills two purposes:

  1. Keeps the cushions smelling fresh
  2. Keeps the bugs away

You can find the cedar balls at virtually any home improvement store.

Double Chaise Lounges and Cushions, the Perfect Outdoor Day

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Everyone wants to have amazing moments in life, with one of those being simply enjoying the soft warm breezes blowing on your face on a gorgeous day of summer, and if you’re anywhere near the water, the gentle sounds of the lapping waves as they hit the shoreline.

These are the sounds of summer that we all aim to enjoy, and throughout many parts of the world, they only come once a year and the time is always far too short. When the best summer parts arrive, you’re able to start expanding your living spaces without having to go to the costs of renovating or adding onto the house. Many of the touches you can add will include the addition of a chaise lounge, with furniture cushions that are elaborately colored. It’s the perfect way to add more enjoyment and pleasure to your outdoor living areas. Making an investment, small to medium range, in some patio or deck furniture is all of the decorating that you’ll have to do to fully enjoy summer. The only thing you really need is a couple of chaise lounge chairs, a table and chairs for enjoying an outdoor meal, and your outdoor living space is complete, ready to enjoy full levels of comfort.

One of your options is a double chaise lounge, as it’s a luxurious option and allows you to share your day close to your friend or partner. You can get chaise cushions in the double chaise size and find them in almost virtually any color you could think of. There are many outdoor furniture makers that have amazing color options in production, many that have tangy shades with some hot colors, making your chaise lounge and outdoor experience playful and exotic.

You’ll find massive variety of patio furniture to pick from, and if you’re looking to find some lounge chairs for kids, double cushions or single, chaise lounge cushions and so on, it can become a quite overwhelming experience. There are some terms that you’re going to want to know, as you’ll find them useful ones to bear in mind when you’re outfitting your deck, patio or outdoor area for enjoying the summer season.

Most patio furniture and lawn chairs are made from iron and aluminum, which are molten metals. A cast iron is going to be 3xs heavier than the cast aluminum, and the cast iron term extruded is something that refers to either a resin or a soft aluminum, which is pushed through an opening in order to form a tube that’s solid yet still able to be shaped. Furthermore, you’ll sometimes find the more traditional wrought iron, which is ½ inch, essentially sold, round iron bars which are forged into designs which are not only solid but also intricate and detailed.

There will be a powder coating on most of the patio furniture that you find today. Powder coating is a powder finish, which is baked onto the metal, which forms a plastic skin that will virtually bond to the metal and is found to be 6xs thicker than paint. The lightweight frames of a lot of the chairs and tables you’ll see will have resin like tubes that make them up through PVC or tubular resin. Lounge chairs for kids are most always lightweight and you’ll find that most are made from this product. A molded plastic or polypropylene is what makes up the resin, which is treated chemically for resistance to fading, strength enhancement and colorfastness.

With patio furniture made of wood, you’ll find that most of this wood furniture is manufactured through wood that’s grown on a plantation, which is designated by such woods like teak, jarrah and balau to name a few. These types of wood are grown within the plantation environment in order to minimize the effect it would otherwise have on the resources of the world. Another wood type is rattan, which comes common in Southeast Asia. Rattan is a solid would that’s stripped of its bark, steamed and then is bent into the furniture’s shape. It’s also known as peel cane, and the bark of it is used to wrap the joints, or is woven into the seats and/or backs of chairs.

One other very important component for patio furniture is wicker. Wicker is found in some chaise lounges and is commonly found within construction of chairs. Wicker construction is a simple technique which is used in order to eave pliant and long strips of almost any type of plant material, however, the reed is most often found from the rattan poles core. You’re going to find some synthetic materials, such as, fiberglass, extruded resin and vinyl, which are all referred to as wicker due to the fact that the designation is referred to by the technique, not by the actual material. Often using a frame made of aluminum, an all-season or weather wicker is going to be made from either a natural or synthetic substance.

One final thought, is that you should always check the warranty or any chaise lounge or chaise lounge cushion that you purchase as you’ll find that there can be some limitations for continual use outdoors. In the end, no matter the chaise lounge that you purchase, set it up, pour a cool drink and enjoy the perfect outdoor day.
